Como cuidar da sua prancha: guia completo de manutenção

How to care for your surfboard: a complete maintenance guide

A well-maintained board lasts for years and keeps its performance intact. Many people invest in a good shape and forget the basic care — and then the board ages poorly, yellows, and loses its structure. See how to preserve your equipment.

1. Store out of direct sunlight

UV radiation is the main enemy of foam. Leaving the board in the car, on the beach, or in places exposed to the sun for hours causes fiber yellowing, deformations, and even delamination. Always use a board bag for transport and storage.

2. Remove wax regularly

Old wax accumulates sand, dirt, and loses grip. The process is simple:

  1. Leave the board in the sun for a few minutes until the wax softens
  2. Use a wax comb to remove the excess
  3. Apply a wax remover or coconut oil to clean the rest
  4. Dry thoroughly before applying new wax

3. Fix dents and dings quickly

Any crack in the fiber allows water to enter — and water inside the foam is the beginning of the end. Warning signs: dark spots on the foam, areas that sink when pressed, visibly increased weight.

Small scratches can be repaired with polyester or epoxy resin. For larger damages, take it to a shaper. The sooner, the smaller the damage and the lower the cost.

4. Rinse with fresh water after each session

Salt dries out the fiber and accelerates wear. A simple rinse of the board (and fins, leash, and wetsuit) with fresh water after each session makes a big difference in the long run.

5. Take care of fins and leash

Regularly check if the fins are securely attached — a loose fin in the peak can lead to an accident. The leash should be inspected after each session: cracks in the cord or swivel are a sign for immediate replacement.

6. Use a board bag for transport

Board bags protect against scratches, impacts, and sun during transport. Invest in a good bag with internal foam — it's much cheaper than repairing a ding caused by carelessness.

At BoardHouse you'll find board bags, wax, wax combs, fins, and leashes to keep your equipment always in top condition. Take care of your surf!
